Presidents Day Long Weekend Activities and Events


Every Third Week of February we celebrate Washington's birthday aka Presidents Day, it is a National Holiday/ Federal Holiday. Some of us get to take advantage of a long weekend. There are plenty of events and activities line up for this week.


Full Moon Adventure

When: February 18, 2011 @ 5:00 pm
Where: Franklin Canyon Drive, Beverly Hills
Free

On the edge of a large metropolis, Franklin Canyon is an oasis of natural peace, beauty, and breath-taking views. Enjoy the park on these rare evening hikes under the light of a full moon. All ages welcome. 2hrs

Helios Dance Theatre 'Beautiful Monsters'

When: February 19, 2011 @ 8pm
Where: Cerritos Center for the Performing Arts
Tickets: $29-$58

Hailed by The San Francisco Bay Guardian as “vibrantly alive” and “exuberant,” ODC/Dance is embraced internationally for its athleticism and poignant choreography. The company opens for Helios Dance Theater, whose gravity-defying Ballet and Contemporary dance movements are “breathtakingly fluid, gorgeously danced,” raves the Los Angeles Times.


Love 'em and Leash 'em Dog Day

When: Saturday, February 19, 2011 8:30 am - 1:00 pm
Where: Irvine Regional Park, 1 Irvine Park Road, Orange
Event: $5.00

Come Enjoy a day at Irvine Regional Park geared specifically for you & your four-legged furry friend! Three hikes at different difficulties will be offered: Pokey Pooch Hike, Moderate Mutt Hike and Hardy Hound Hike. Registration is strongly encouraged to ensure your dog gets to participate in the hike of its choice!

Art of Odyssey for Families

When: Saturdays and Sundays, 2:00pm
Where: Getty Villa, Malibu
Event: Free with your advance, timed ticket to the Getty Villa

Get creative with your kids in Art Odyssey! This 45-minute gallery program for families combines a tour, interactive activities, & lots of family teamwork.

Whale of A Weekend

When: Sat & Sun, Feb. 19 & 20, 12:30 pm - 5:00 pm
Where: Santa Monica Pier Aquarium

The Santa Monica Pier Aquarium will provide a wildlife observation station at the west end of the Pier, stocked with binoculars and field guides, giving visitors the opportunity to search for whales during the annual migration of the Pacific Gray Whale. American Cetacean Society/Whale Watch representatives staffing the observation station can address questions about these gentle giants.

2011 NBA All-Star Jam Session

When: February 20, 2011 @ 5:00 pm
Where: Staples Center

An event so big it will take the STAPLES Center to hold all the excitement. The 60th NBA All-Star Game will bring together 24 of the world's best athletes to compete on the NBA's biggest stage ever.


Smuckers Stars on Ice

When: Sunday, February 20, 2011 @ 4:00 pm
Where: Honda Center
Tickets: $25-$150

America’s most beloved figure skating tour, Smucker’s Stars on Ice, has brought together a superstar ensemble of Olympic, World and National Champions from all over the globe to celebrate its 25th season. LACMA Target Free Holiday Mondays

When: Monday, February 21, 12:00 - 8:00 pm (Presidents Day)
Where: Los Angeles County Museum of Art

Day off with the kids? Trying to figure out what to do? This Monday is a great day to take the family to explore the Los Angles County Museum of Art. Admission is FREE and the art is priceless. Enjoy a live performance with the Bohemians. Performances at 12:30 pm and 2:45 pm.

Annual Presidents Day Celebration

When: Monday, February 21 - 10:00 am - 3:00 pm
Where: Ronald Reagan Library

Come mingle with our Founding Fathers during the 19th Annual Presidents Day Celebration at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library and Museum on This celebration includes fun for the whole family, including musical entertainment, storytelling, and presidential and first lady look a-likes. Hot dogs, pie and other all-American food will be available for purchase. Presidents Day activities are FREE.
