Jewelry Trends 2009

Fads come and go, but isn't it nice that classic jewelry never truly goes out of style? Save the bulk of your jewelry dollars for the classics, and set aside a little cash for those trendy pieces of jewelry that are lots of fun, but might get tucked away in a drawer after the season ends. The good news is that you can mimic celebrity jewelry without spending a fortune.

Layered necklaces continue to be a popular look. Multiple chains, often strung with charms and beads, are one version of the style. Just as popular are multi-stranded necklaces made from beads of varying shapes, sizes and colors. The necklaces might be ready-made for layering, but don't hesitate to mix and match your own jewelry. Raid your jewelry box and stack a few necklaces around your neck. Do you like the look? Keep experimenting until you do.

Black onyx looks lush combined with any type of metal and nearly over other gemstone. Onyx is popping up everywhere, and I think we'll continue to see more and more of it in jewelry of all types. You'll see a wide variation of styles among the onyx jewelry in our collection -- there's a little something for everyone.

Stacked bracelets and necklaces continue to be a popular jewelry trend. Mix up metals and other materials -- groups are more interesting if they don't match. Wide cuff bracelets are an option if you don't like to wear multiples on your wrist. Chunky chains and necklaces made from large, open links remain popular for 2008 and 2009. More necklaces are layered, with links bound together into stacks that surround your neck. Some are long enough to wear as a single chain or to wrap a couple of times for more depth. Look for more textured links, alone or combined with polished links. And don't hesitate to clip a charm to some of the links in your necklace -- that's a trendy look for 2009 and beyond.
